Ethan and Cheyanna did it again! Santarem & Coimbra World Cup, Portugal WRAP UP.

This past July, Portugal was the host country of two back-to-back World Cups. With more bang for your buck and providing valuable experience in the lead up to this years World Championships, senior representatives Ethan and Cheyanna could not pass it up. They made selection along with club owner and head coach Dima and travelled with the rest of the Australian Trampoline Team. They first competed in Santarem and after finishing 2022 on such a high, both athletes came out and picked up where they left off.

In Double Mini Trampoline (Dmt) Cheyanna was sitting in 2nd place after the qualifying round completing 2 awesome routines for a total qualifying score of 51.100. She came out the next day for finals and once again was strong. After making it through to the super final, (the top 4 scorers from final 1) she landed another super routine, scoring a 24.900 and her away with the bronze medal. This was Cheyanna’s first ever World Cup appearance so to perform as well as she did and claim herself a medal is to be commended.

For Ethan, the Santarem World Cup was his first time out on the world stage since being crowned the 2022 Tumbling World Champion in Sofia, Bulgaria. He played the qualification round very strategically to ensure prime position into the finals. Ethan, true to form chose to push his personal boundaries and up his difficulty and as a result competed Australia’s first ever full in triple in the super final, which is a triple back somersault with a full twist at the start. Landing this routine saw him walk away from Santarem the silver medalist.

From there it was onto Coimbra, another beautiful Portuguese city for their second World Cup event. The competition in Coimbra was strong with most delegations in attendance due to the fact it was an Olympic qualifier for trampoline. This upped the profile of the comp and with it the anticipation and pressure. Our two seniors reveled in this and were pumped heading into competition.

First up on Dmt, Cheyanna once again shone. Continuing on with her scintillating form, Cheyanna scored a total of 51.700 from her qualifying routines which saw her heading into the finals in 2nd position. Up against stellar components, Cheyanna held her position right through to the super final and finished strong, landing herself another World Cup medal, this time a silver.

Off the back of last week’s silver medal Ethan was ready to give it his all in what was a huge field off talent and skill. He completed 2 routines successfully and just scraped into the finals. Hi first routine was good so onto the top 4 super final. He knew he had to compete his medal winning routine from the week before but unfortunately this time, he didn’t get the landing he needed and finished in 4th place, another impressive competition for him.

“I decided to give my absolute everything into the last routine and unfortunately didn’t get the landing 100%. Although I missed out on a medal, I have no regrets and I am super happy to have once again gone for this routine.”

We are so proud of both Ethan and Cheyanna for what was an exceptional fortnight of competition for both of them. They now set their sights on the 2023 World Championships which are to be held in Birmingham UK in November.
